Progress before perfection, twelve years deep
Joey Camacho of Raw & Rendered has made a render a day since 2014.
In 2014, Joey Camacho told Vice he had been "full of shit for a long time," waiting for the perfect project instead of starting. So he started. A daily render under the banner Progress Before Perfection, every day, in Cinema 4D. That was twelve years ago, and by his own count he has not stopped.
Sit with that number for a second. Most of us cannot keep a habit through one bad week. This man has shipped through every creative drought, client crunch, and life event since 2014. The library that practice built, under his Raw & Rendered banner out of Calgary, is one of the deepest wells of abstract 3D on the internet, and the particle work in it is why he is on our wall.
The signature piece for our money is Prediction, his neural-network visualization: Cinema 4D, X-Particles, and Octane doing structure, chaos, and light in one continuous thought.
The practice feeds the day job too: Tiffany, Amazon, Aveda, Under Armour. Here is the HOVR spot, where the daily abstract muscle gets pointed at a shoe.
This studio has a saying: the hours are the point. Joey is what that looks like when you actually mean it.
Send value his way: the daily feed lives on Instagram, the archive at rawandrendered.com/progress, and you can license his artwork straight from him.
